Janglepophub featured Van Houten‘s superb ‘Moon’ single, in their ‘Beat The Delete #0018 blog last week and are delighted that this has now been followed with the equally superb Running Scared (see below) which is the second single from their soon to be released eponymous debut album (out 13.09.19).

Van Houten / Running Scared is a hard aesthetic to place, mixing psyche-pop inflections, jangled riffs aplenty and the mere semblance of Honeymoon style croon to melancholy introspective reflections detailing the effect of depression on the loved one of the depressed.

Somehow the brilliant juxtaposition of these sounds manages to create something that compliments the subject matter without ever even placing one foot on slit your wrist style The Smiths type mumbling and musings.

The much awaited album is likely to be an absolute essential purchase if the two flyer singles are representative of the overall quality.
