Beat the Delete #0023 (New Music Recommendations)

New music submissions (‘new’ classes as less than a month from release) arrive at JPH from all sources, including band members, promo companies and the various follow buttons that I have clicked over the years at the various streaming sites etc…the following are among my  favourites that have  ‘beat the delete’ button in the last week.

Band: Tincho

Track:  CT From: Home Today  Label:  Self released Release date: Pre-order vinyl now for release date 15.11.19

Beach Fossils meets Bulit to Spill. An unlikely, but brilliant combination from this Seattle Based 4-some.

Band: Jetstream Pony

Track:  Don’t Fear the Reaper From: Don’t Fear the Reaper (single)  Label:  Self released Release date: 11.09.19

Any release by Jetstream Pony is always a cause for celebration. Even more so when it’s the most spectacular cover of The Blue Oyster Cult track that the world has ever seen (many apologies to The Bridewell Taxis…you are finally usurped!)

Band: Sprinters

Track:  Ending From: Struck Gold  Label:  Meritorio Records Release date: Pre-order vinyl now for release date 15.11.19

This track has a beautiful Carriers feel to it as it flirt with indie rock but ultimately remains to jangly to commit to it. Another winner from Meritorio Records.

Band: Sean Henry

Track:  Rain Rain From: A Jump from the High Dive  Label:  Double Double Whammy  Release date: Pre-order vinyl now for release date 01.11.19

Bedroom-pop New Yorker looks set to come of age, if this brilliant flyer single from his soon to be released new album is any indication.

Band: Frankiie

Track:  Funny Feelings From: Forget Your Head  Label:  Paper Bag Records Release date: Pre-order vinyl now for release date 20.09.19

Canadian act who have recently supported The Charlatans mixing surf/dreamrock to a more muscular indie rock vibe to immense effect.

Band: Late Note

Track:  Flotation Device From: Flotation Device (single)  Label:  Self Released Release date: 14.09.19

Sparse alt.jangle in the same vein as early Meat Puppets or a modern day Relax to Push. Will appeal to all those bwho crave a certain element of fraction in their jangle

Band: Will Samson

Track:  Ochre Alps From: Paralanguage  Label:  Wichita Recordings Release date: Pre-order vinyl now for release date 06.12.19

Beautiful track from British singer songwriter who has provided some of the best jangly ambience around.

Band: Natural Child

Track:  White Light White Heat  From: Burger Tribute To Velvet Underground’s White Light / White Heat by VA (EP)  Label:  Burger Records Release date: 12 September 2019

Brilliant psych-pop version of the Velvet Underground classic, represents the best of another quality compilation from this superb label.

Band: Max Diaz

Track:  Friends  From: Friends (single)  Label:  Self Released Release date: 12 September 2019

15 year old Texan who has plainly not received the Whatsapp saying that anybody under the age of 20 must be rubbish. Surfy spaced out jangly dream-pop is the order of the day from this future prodigy.

Band: Walrus

Track:  Half Smoke From: Cool to Who  Label:  Outside Music Release date: Pre-order album now for 18 October 2019 release

Flyer track / video from the greatly anticpated off-shoot of Besnard Lakes / Dead Meadow, produces lovely humid pop that touches the boudaries of both psych and jangle.

Band: Jens Carelius

Track:  Lay Me Down From: OPSI  Label:  Jansen Records Release date: 13 September 2019

Jens Carelius is where you might expect William Tyler to go if he dropped his instrumental rule. All beautiful acoustic jangled riffs and distant echoed vocals. Beautiful stuff from Oslo, Norway.

Band: Ugly

Track:  Rat Race, Snails Pace From: The Price of Fame – Themed (single)  Label:  Self Released Release date: Out now

Reminds me heavily of the Marble Eyed / Omni style free form jangled layered onto theatrical The Buttertones vocal. A promising mix.
