Single Review – Last Days of Summer by Victoria’s Flight (2019) (self released)

Last Days of Summer (see video below) is the second superb single from Glasgow duo Victoria’s Flight that will have imminent appeal for those of us who like our pop slathered in all thing comtempo, slightly sophisti and very 80’s Scotland.

This single juxtaposes the exquisitely rounded, crooning intonations, of bands such as Aztec Camera, The Bluebells and Orange Juice, adds the very slightest of dream-pop atmospherics, before lacing the most subtle of jangled guitar pop riffs and hooks into an aesthetic that avoids the complexity due to its sheer warmth and sincerity. Effectively it culminates in the sense that you are getting from a Scottish Prefab Sprout.

After the brilliance of their first two singles and with a planned third to be released soon, this is a band that is ultimately very likely to reward any ‘click on the follow button’ investment.
