EP Review – Warmer Shades Of You by Still Submarine (2023) (self released)

StillSub

After the How I Felt Before debut single got the jangle-receptors a-wigglin’ of all the micro-blogs that matter back in April 2023, New York’s Still Submarine is back with a five-track Warmer Shades of You EP that justifies every morsel of the potential that the single promised.
Just Kidding and More Glass could be classified as shoegaze if they did not have beautifully fragile melodies that just about simper to the surface of the superficial mayhem in a sound that feels like it is skimming the cream off both twee-pop and the most fragile end of gaze you could imagine.
The twee becomes more concerted in Photo’s I Never Took, Still Alice, and Yi’s Song as the ghosts of a thousand 1990’s cardigan wearers tiptoe along the path of cute pop melodies and jangled riffs that seem to unfurl and tumble around each other in a swirl that flies within beautiful dream-pop realms.
A simply wonderful debut EP from a band that has an indefinable ‘difference’.
