Exuding all things antipodean indie, this Stay Gold second single to be released from Restless Leg’s forthcoming Dance Around My Head album (out of Love As Fiction Records on June 21, 2024) is typical of a full-length release that touches upon everything from Dunedin Sound, Triple J, The Beths, and The Go-Betweens.

Ghost Piss ~ Rude Dudes – Floating with consummate attitude between Hatchie and Poppogene-style driven dream-pop and a definitive Dum Dum Girls indie-punk essence, this solo recording project by New York’s River Allen takes the indie-chanteuse vibe to higher levels.

Driven with simultaneous undercurrents of Green Day style pop punk and the jangly incessance of “Fuck Me I’m Twee” era Tullycraft, Christian James has enough snip and snarl on this That’s Alright By Me track to make you intsantly want to check out his latest Robert Avenue album?
Those who love the indie-rock meets jangle-pop intensity of acts like Dehd and Ducks Ltd may well have found a new darling in this CalicoLoco duo from Chicago, Illinois and the brillaint dynamism of their new Soft Bawl single.

O Jonas! ~ No Dogs Allowed – Imagine that Sarah Records resurrected and signed a small town Swedish shoegaze lover who had spent too much time listening to JoĆ£o Gilberto and Nara LeĆ£o. What would that sound like? Imagine a melancholic Momus trying to write Beatles-like songs, and then asking Ride to perform them. What would be the result? O Jonas! is the project of an indie kid who got old but never really grew up, an introvert exhibitionist obsessed with melodies and harmonies. Making music in Brazil, Sweden and Portugal….from the promo submission

“Murphy Bunk Bed” is the second single off Vanity Plates‘ forthcoming “Good Grief” LP (out on the Editoris label, 24 May ’24) — featuring their most confessional songwriting to date. We’re prioritizing finding a premiere for their amazing vintage dog show music video, but are looking for any help in getting their music to new ears.
For fans of Pavement, Silver Jews, and Wolf Parade….from the promo submission

Aubrey Strawā€˜s Imperfect Spheres is a sonic journey that grips you from the first chord and refuses to let go. With jangling guitars and infectious hooklines, this track is a rollercoaster of emotions that hits you right in the feels. The raw energy and passion behind each note transport you back to the golden era of indie rock, with a modern twist that keeps you on the edge of your seat….read the full review at Last Day Deaf

Red Sleeping BeautyĀ is a long-standing indie bedroom pop band that started in Stockholm in 1989. They have recently returned with their new single ā€œIs This Love?ā€
Itā€™s the third single released in their ā€œone song a month seriesā€ that they are doing all of 2024. Itā€™s a brisk and charming slice of jangly dream pop in the vein of Belle & Sebastian and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart with a genuine melancholic sensibility and warm charm. This is what dream pop is all about….read full review at We All Want Someone To Shout For.

If Courtney Barnett moved from languid professional Aussie slacker towards lofi, fuzz-laden twee, the glorious sound of Tigerblind, and this Hold You Tight track (from the It’s All Gonna Happen To You album that was released on May 7, 2024) is what she wishes she might sound like!

With ā€˜No Sense of Timeā€™, The Stone Souls take you back to the summer of love. The track is infused with Californian surf rock and West Coast Pop from the 60s, inspired by acts such as The Byrds, The Ventures & The Beach Boys.
Contemporary times can feel as hopeless as they did for the generation from the 1960s. Sometimes you just need to take a break to recharge. With this peppy song, The Stone Souls remind you that we have a beautiful summer ahead of us!…from the Bandcamp release bio.

Goodybe Wudaokou ~ New Century RegretsIf youā€™ve been looking for a spirited pop tune to get your Monday off on the right foot, then you donā€™t need to look any further, asĀ Goodybe Wudaokou have the perfect tune for your day. This tune rushes right in with a furiousness that immediately has you tightening your shoelaces to run right out that door; you can feel the energy of the guitars pulsing beneath your feet, pushing you into the glory of a new day….read the full review at Austin Town Hall

Dayaway ~ Ghost Beach –Ā  Dayaway is the dreamy indie pop project of Amber Renee, a water sign obsessed with the ocean. HerĀ songs tell a story of love and loss, detailing a heartbreak in summertime snapshots.
The project was conceived and written over many afternoons out at Rockaway Beach and produced with her longtime collaborator and four-time Grammy winner Graham Marsh. Equal parts beachy new wave and hazy dream pop, dayawayā€™s songs are tailor-made for golden afternoons on the water…from the promo submission.

The dream-pop meets jangle sound of MatAre (the solo recording project of Atlanta’s Matt Rousseau) and in particular this superb Perfect Constant single should appeal to those who include the sounds of acts such Community Swimming Pool, Swiss Portrait and Darksoft as prized possession in their music collection.

Richard Tripps ~ Blue Eyed Open Sky (from the Between The Morning album out on Perpetual Doom on 05 July 2024)Ā  – WhenĀ Richard Tripps set out to work on his new album, he admit to be fascinated by the lo-fi sounds of acts such as the Velvet Underground; the opening track off that new LP definitely would have made Lou and Co. proud. Thereā€™s this natural disregard for what we come to think as studio magic, inevitably making this tune feel more lively than anything youā€™re likely pulling from a studio master….read full review at Austin Town Hall

The Namesakes and this superb, rambunctious A Tale of Hope and Heart jangle rock single sound like they should have derived from the Medway sound of the 80s and 90s UK. All pub rock, blue collar, and jangly, this Lauceston, Australia, foursome leave no stone unturned in their quest to provide jangly testosterone aplenty!

Jack Gaby and his Driveway single are the perfect marriage between the floating, subtle dreamy jangle-gaze aural textures of the recent Darksoft albums juxtaposed against beautiful vocals that are accentuated within the production to a crystalline sheen.

Stockholm-basedĀ Well AdjustedĀ does everything right on the new single “So Sick”, whose dreamy shoegaze and catchy melodic language puts the band in the driver’s seat when it comes to Swedish indie pop. The music is mid-tempo, colored by Emma Pettersson’s warm voice and a production characterized by calm and harmony. “So Sick” gets you swept along and the song’s 3.26 represents time that maximizes existence for a short while. Top class!…translated from review at Hymn.

Madrid, Spain-based dream-pop artist April June arrives on the blog with the vibrantly chill sounds of ā€œStarstruck.ā€
The track opens to the buoyant tones of a piano-driven arrangement, strewn across the top of a moderately paced beat. The result is a sound that will have you swaying in complete jubilation, tapping your feet to its gentle rhythmic nature.
But where ā€œStarstruckā€ has completely won our attention is with april juneā€™s vocal performance. Her voice enters the sonic landscape like a dream, delicately delivering lines of lyrics inspired by the 1993 film, True Romance, which adds a pop culture cherry atop this already enchanting musical number…read full review at UpToHear.

To steal a direct quote from American Pancake about Worcester, Massachusetts ICHIWAWA: “To say he colors outside the lines is an understatement.” is the perfect description for this mixture of jangly lo-fi and Brother of Monday-style idiosyncracity.

Plasma Chasms ~ Psychedelic Carousel –Ā  Claiming the unchartered music water between The Beatles in their “highest” years and the jangly nd of of the King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard freak-psychĀ  this Los Angeles based of thread perfect pop weirdness directly through a so-cal vibe.

Burned Blue is a wistful surf rock song about surrendering to love even when it seems doomed. Featuring acoustic textures and a slight country element in its guitar parts, Burned Blue’s lush harmonies pay tribute to classic California music of the 60s and 70s while updating it with Strawflower’s signature flourishes….from the promo submission

Central to the sonic landscape of Gushh is the use of vocal samples sourced from vintage media. This exploration took on a unique dimension for “Nothing is Lost,” as it juxtaposes the past’s perspective on progress and industry with our modern understanding of environmental urgency. The incorporation of these samples serves to underscore the stark reality of the industries that have inadvertently propelled climate change.
As the narrative of the song unfolded, it became imperative to address key themes echoed in the poetryā€”deforestation, industrial pollution, agricultural impact, and the looming threat of rising sea levels. However, upon reflection, I realized that the initial portrayal inadvertently skewed towards a fatalistic viewpoint. Thus, I endeavoured to pivot the message in the latter half of the song, offering a glimpse of optimism and the potential for collective action.
The title, “Nothing is Lost,” draws its resonance from the evocative verses of the Archipelago poem, which served as the primary muse for the composition, both musically and thematically. Specifically, from this stanza…from the promo submission.

ā€œAn album concerned with relationships in all of their guises.ā€ Thatā€™s how we describedĀ A Pawn Surrender, the forthcoming album fromĀ Atlantaā€˜sĀ Rose HotelĀ onĀ Strolling Bones Records. ā€œAcross the ten tracks which combine folk and indie rock with psych sensibilities,ā€ we continued, ā€œ[Jordan] Reynolds considers romantic, platonic and even environmental relations, not to mention the relationship one holds with their own internal self.ā€…read full review at Various Small Flames here.

Saving face by Matched is about being desperate for control of one’s own narrative. She wants people to believe she is okay, but it’s a lie to make others feel better. She’ll keep getting up, but inevitably life will knock her down and it hurts. This song was written, produced, and recorded by the two of us in our tiny apartment and we’re stoked to finally be putting it out! …adapted from the promo submission

Earlier todayĀ QuiversĀ let us know that they have signed to Merge Records and will release new albumĀ Oyster CutsĀ on August 9. We would be thrilled if the new album matched the highs of their previousĀ Golden Doubt, but based on the first single — “Apparition” — we dare dream that it will surpass their debut. It is bold, bright and confident with crunchy guitars and a buoyant chorus. This album is going to be so, so good!…read the full review at the When You Motor Away Blog

Alexei Shishkin ~ Bermuda (out of Candlepin Records) – Self-described as ā€œa labelā€™s worst nightmareā€, Alexei Shishkin can often be found playing pickup soccer in a Ridgewood park or doubling down on a soup and sandwich combo, but youā€™ll never see him take the stage.
Shishkinā€™s style is equal parts prolific and poignant. Bringing an improvisational air to the bedroom slacker pop sound of the 90s and early 00s, his ability to build intersectional compositions from jazz voicings, simple loops, and musings on daily life results in a cathartic rush of content that is nowhere near slowing down.
By embracing the rough edges and eschewing performance in favor of creation, his musically reclusive style has fed on itself and grown into a singular voice all its own….from the promo submission.

Big Warm BedĀ  ~ Should’ve Seen It Coming (out on the Dance To The Radio label)… Though Big Warm Bed ā€“ aka Jacob Andrews ā€“ cites artists like Kevin Morby, Willie J Healey, and Sam Evian as influences, you can also hear iconic artists like Michael Head (Shack, The Strands) in the drawing together of classic 80s and 90s indie beats and shimmering Byrds-like rock vibes of the guitar….read full review at Analogue Trash

Take the post-punk propensities if the RGV, Motorama and DIIV vibe and augmenting it with added languid subtleties and melodic jangled riffs, this Joyride track from Wine Pride’s superb Lost Years EP excel in a sense of beautiful dank.

Parker Smith ~ Mothers (Take A Turn Recording)Ā – Atlanta singer/songwriter and guitarist Parker Smithā€™s breezy third studio albumĀ Short StreetĀ (due out June 7th) was made with sensitivity, humor and an innate knack for creating art from life. Its easy-flowing melodies and lilting pedal steel infuse some rural Americana without going full-on country. Smithā€™s sweet, zephyr-like sound and welcoming everyman vocals continue from the albumā€™s opening lightly strummed guitars, through its eight brisk, yet never blustery, tunes….read full review at Glide Magazine
