BT0233COLLAGE

Thank you for joining us for Beat the Delete 0233, featuring Another near enough 20 acts that have swerved the dreaded delete button over the last couple of weeks !!!

The monologue between myself and Sebastian Voss (Nah and The Fisherman and his Soul) wnt a bit like this:
Seb: Would you like to release our new Cinema Engines work
Subjangle: No thanks it sound a little bit similar to your The Fisherman and his Soul stuff
A few months later this wonderfully jangly, completely dissimilar single was released on Seb’s own Bureau Platiruma!!! label and the people at Subjangle Towers (i.e. me) wept over a lost opportunity…the moral of the story is “Don’t think everything sounds like The Fisherman and His Soul !!!

The newest from Great Klons is “Twilight Gardener.” The band is band helmed by Scott Hesel as a solo effort, but certainly doesn’t sacrifice any sound. Hesel is almost certainly a child of the 90’s and he’s got the chops to show it; the guitar feedback and straightforward hooks would have been at home in any liberal arts college that I’m familiar with. That isn’t to say Great Klons are copy cats or just rehashing old ideas, nay! Building on and growing what has come around before is how we get great new music.
The low-fi aesthetic employed here, along with the chill abandon, is most welcome in a time where music can often sound overproduced. Obviously a guitar guy by trade, listen to the layers and the simple brilliance of the bass and drums keeping beat – a novice effort this is not. Fans of Parquet courts, Guided by Voices, as well as Stephen Malkmus’ iterations over the years, would find a lot to enjoy here….Read full review at BuffaBlog

This DML single by Buckley’s Angel, an ongoing moniker of LA multi-instrumentalist Michael Kelly (Ash Williams, Matt Caskitt & The Breaks), offers a blend of Crumbling Surf Curse style surf rock, subtle jangle-gaze, and fuzz to cater to the Spirit Goth/Ztapes crowd and beyond.

Earlier today Quivers let us know that they have signed to Merge Records and will release new album Oyster Cuts on August 9. We would be thrilled if the new album matched the highs of their previous Golden Doubt, but based on the first single — “Apparition” — we dare dream that it will surpass their debut. It is bold, bright and confident with crunchy guitars and a buoyant chorus. This album is going to be so, so good!…read full review at When You Motor Away.

You can tell that Illumiati Hotties have achieved success when prominent online publications like Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, and Consequence of Sound are eager to coin new praises for this band. However, tracks like the Can’t Be Still single from their upcoming POWER album, which is available on Hopeless Records, highlight why this project by Sarah Tudzin remains so essential to the world of micro-music bloggers and still so very ‘ours’!

This tune literally feels like an old Beatles record with a strong feeling of nostalgia. Jangly guitars meet vibrant drums and expressive vocals, creating a warm and authentic vintage soundscape. All I can say is that I absolutely enjoyed listening to Smug Brothers’ latest release ‘Javelina Nowhere,’ a smooth but also driving indie rock track with a fabulous lofi feel….read full review at Indie Tapes

The debut Dead Calm album by Gonzalo Marcos and Andrew Taylor’s beautifully jangly The Boys With The Perpetual Nervousness project is receiving the deluxe treatment from the Bobo Integral label with re-mastered tracks, a splattering of new tracks and acoustic demos…it is still beautiful but there just more of the beautiful !

Heat drizzled spaghetti western psyche-pop meets Kevin Robertson’s always perfect crystalline jangled riffs in this Windows of the Sun single from his forthcoming The Call of the Sea album, which is out on Futureman Records and Subjangle on July 7, 2024.
Fresh off a European tour, Cola delivers their latest single ‘Pulling Quotes’ ahead of the release of their sophomore LP, The Gloss. Lyrically, ‘Pulling Quotes’ delves into a relationship where two people approach each other like journalists…read full review at The Daily Music Report

The first flyer single from Share’s debut Have One album, County Lines, will be available on Forged Artifacts on August 9, 2024. It features a crunchy blend of garage-pop and 90s jangly power-pop, positioning them to compete with contemporary power-pop greats like 2nd Grade, Mo Troper, and Jim Nothing.

Just in time to kick off summer, Helsinki, Finland’s daydreaming pop tunesmiths, TEINI-PÄÄ, return with a four-track Mietin minne meet EP that’s on assignment to swallow your insecurities and your anxieties, and spit them back to the world in bubbles of carefree elation and effervescent romantic charm…from the Bandcamp release bio

The UK-based indie rock trio, My Best Unbeaten Brother, known for their associations with Nosferatu D2, Tempertwig, and Superman Revenge Squad, have released their final single, “Blues Fatigue,” from their debut mini-album Pessimistic Pizza. The Parker siblings have delivered a track that beautifully juxtaposes their roots with a newfound sense of hope.
Following the success of their previous singles “Time on Our Hands, Spider-Man” and “Extraordinary Times,” “Blues Fatigue” marks a shift in the band’s thematic approach with the song showcasing a driving optimism that contrasts with the pessimism of their other works….read full review at Amplify The Noise

Famed for their commitment to the lifeguard lifestyle, The Wendys deliver a summer serving of scuzzy garage surf punk as they ride the waves of their fidelity-shunning anthem, then hammer their safety message home with frantic B-side romp Get In The Flags (Live at Darkroom 2021)…read full review at Under The Radar.

Taking the jangle-gaze propensities of Kosmonaut or The Luxembourg Field, an extra The Field Mice-style jangly sweetness augments this Spinning single by London’s Rainsong to provide the layers of noise with an alluring dream-pop edge.

Juxtaposing luscious Slowdive style fuzz as opposed to the heavier shoegaze wall of sound, this Broken Vintage Toys single by Denmark’s Donna Martin Graduates allows every note to resonate with a trembling beauty.

Those of you who have followed the blog for any length of time will know about my love for Japanese shoegaze. This Waterdepth199m project epitomizes my fascination with the sound-adjusting gaze textures, featuring typically fey South East Asian vocals and fragile, incidental jangled riffs that persistently emerge through the wall of noise.
There’s definitely some great tunes coming out today, monumentally so, such as the new single from Sad Eyed Beatniks. This single pulls on you immediately; the lonesome guitar and pacing feel like a leaf casually taking a ride down a slow-moving stream. Kevin Linn’s voice has this brightness that carries through the wistful bend of the notes, though it also gravitates towards a whispering effect, faintly tickling your ears as it billows right by you…read full review at Austin Town Hall

Somehow managing to augment layers of twang, jangle-pop and a dulcet sense of perfect under production, this Palo Soprano project of Oregon’s Ryan Pickard is always swathed in originality and this Lonely single typifies such as aesthetic.
The band El Paso is indescribable in genre, and unmistakable in sound. It’s the aggressiveness of a well-balanced delay, and the soothing nature of an expected overdrive.
The band floats in the muddy waters known as soul, blues rock and adult contemporary – they describe their sound as cowboy pop.
El Paso consists of Tommy Gulbrandsen, Niclas Mæhre, Simen Børnes and Roar Skotte….from the promo submission.
