EP Review – The Door To Your Room by TheLightshines (2024) (Self released)

Thelightshinesband

London-based quintet Thelightshines unexpectedly reemerged with The Dappled Light of Morning EP in March 2024, swiftly followed by this Door To Your Room EP, ten years after the gloriously jangly psyche-pop of Enter the Sandman album seemed to mark the beginning and end of their career.
The opening title track starts with a funky bassline that acts as a foundation for the London based quintet to fill every conceivable crack between the juxtaposition of the 3.A.M. Again,  The Shining Tongues and Kelley Stoltz, with their sixties west coast pop inflections, while A Morning in Love engulfs the aesthetic with the intensity of the World of Twist and Primal Scream baggy sound.
The final Ahlalala and Tears tracks adopt a ‘very sixties’ vibe as their primary nuance, with The Beach Boys melodies just about breaching the beauty of the omnipresent jangled riffs.
Grab yourself a digital copy of both of their recent albums here. Trust me when I assure you that they will brighten even the most dull of days.
