Album Review – Sculpture Club by Sculpture Club (2024) (Born Loser Records)

ScuptureClub

On this third eponymous album (their first with the new label Born Loser Records), Dallas-based trio Sculpture Club continues on their quest to make jangly post-punk accessible to those who were around when vinyl was the primary option, as opposed to nostalgic hipsterism, the Spotify generation of quick mouse draws, and absolutely everything in between.
As a result, The Cure’s more melodic Boys Don’t Cry era metallic jangle-pop riffs run through songs like Cursed or Hexed, Hide and Seek, and If I Was Ghost, while the jangle-gaze modernity of contemporary acts such as The BV’s or The Sylvia Platters blends with the distinctive 80s vibe of The Chameleons and The Wake, and other acts that carried the post-punk genre towards it’s jangle-pop future.
