Discover the Fuzz and Jangle of Loose Tooth’s Latest “New Age”Album

For those of us who still cannot shake the Keep On single from our minds, it may come as a surprise that nearly seven years have passed since the brilliance of the Loose Tooth Keep Up album was released on Courtney Barnett’s Milk! Records in August 2018.
Now, after the departure of Luc Dawson, long time friends Etta Curry and Nellie Jackson have returned as a duo, offering a New Age follow-up album on Blossom Rot Records that is just as filled with earworm tendencies as anything they have released in the past.
As a body of work, the album is possibly more abrasive than their previous releases. The heavy, fuzz-laden melodies in tracks like Suffering, Do You Want to Fall, and Light of Day lean towards the janglier sounds characteristic of 90s bands like Pixies, The Breeders, or Belly. However, the fuzz is eventually softened—though never eliminated—by the crisp, unforgiving hooks and jangly indie-pop elements found in songs such as Buy Into Something, Bianca Mayers, Body and Mind, and Ideas. These tracks swiftly reignite our appreciation for their distinct Aussie slacker-pop sensibilities.
Well-worn, lived-in pop feels always feels so remarkably vital when crafted by Loose Tooth.
