EP Review ~ Dekadensi Cinta by Neshband (2025) (Disanorak)

Neshband was the solo recording project of Ganesha, who is perhaps better known for more recently fronting the brilliant jangly indie-pop act The Silent Love (while you’re here, be sure to check out their latest beautiful single, “I Deserve More Than a Maybe”, here), and this Dekadensi Cinta EP seems to consist of tracks that were not included in the Melodi Cinta EP, which was re-released by Tarsius Records in 2021 after its initial 2009 debut on Anoa Records.
This album is decidedly more polished in production than The Silent Love’s work. It presents a truly eclectic mix, juxtaposing the typically fey, sweet vocals of the Indonesian jangle-pop scene with a distinct Japanese neo-pop influence. Tracks like “gadis ‘pembenci kupukupu,'” “Surat Cinta,” and “Rindu” all offer a jangly essence that fills the crevices between the coolness of the Tenniscoats and the cuteness of Advantage Lucy.
In between these tracks, Neshband is willing to explore the boundaries of lucid pop production, evident in the sophisti-pop meets indie-pop sound of “Cinta Mati,” which embodies the essence of Nah! at their most resplendent. Additionally, the groove-inflected neo-pop of “Panah Cinta” gives off the vibe of being the best Roly Poly Rag Bear track that mid-2000s Japanese pop maestros never quite managed to pen.
At present available on digital only (although their are plans for a cassette release) from a Disanorak label that can be relied upon for the best of indie-pop rarities from Indonesia, grab yourself a copy here.
