EP REVIEW – “Lose Your Perspective on Pop” by Poplar Tree

Poplar Tree don’t even bother with a sideways swipe at ‘curators’ like ourselves preferring a head the head on attack with the following:
“Poplar won’t do what curators do with their long texts, which lack even a hint of honesty, nothing special.
We’re just playing around, and rather than writing about this album and that band, we’re not very honest
Poplar won’t do what curators do with their long texts, which lack even a hint of honesty, nothing special.
We’re just playing around, and rather than writing about this album and that band, we’re not very honest.

Some might quote Lenin, “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.” But have you ever followed your heart?” …translated to English from the Bandcamp release page

So as not ‘poke the bear’, incur their wrath even further and to deflect accusations of dishonesty, I will keep this as brief as possible with the following points:
  • “When Cheesu Club Sells My Heart” is an enthralling mix of Television Personalities disinterested vocals, Race ascribed fuzz-pop and Ramones inflected battered guitar, three chord simplicity, that exudes brilliance from all three angles.
  • “Vs You Part 2” augments there version of indie-pop with a sense of The Interpretation Culture ascribed chiming, jangled riffs.
  • The remainder of this “Lose Your Perspective On Pop” and especially “Keep Our Pain” and “The Greedy Shy One” revel in a juxtaposition of female fronted The Kitchenettes style indie-pop and perfect Dolly Mixture indifference.
  • The entire EP is superb.
I hope the above passes their dishonesty test?
