EP Review – Crumble by Letting Up Despite Great Faults (2023) (Self released)

It is no surprise that Austin, Texas based foursome Letting Up Despite Great Faults have garnered enough popularity in Japan to justify a tour that commences in Nagoya on 21.04.23. as theirs is a sound that will always appeal to the Southeast Asian psyche, and this ‘tour-ready’ EP is certainly going to be a resounding hit over there.
Sweetness is a must for the Japanese market, and Crumble has this in abundance. Opening and closing tracks The Do-Over and Half Way Crooks offer a mixture of melodic fuzz, subtle gaze, and disinterested vocal sweetness that is reminiscent of Seventeen Years Old and Berlin Wall, whilst always managing to augment their own particular vibe with infinitely more jangled riffs than their Japanese counterparts.
Vanity/Losing and Ricochet eradicate the fuzz and replace it with a heightened dream-pop emphasis, that is juxtaposed with powerful chiming riffs that rip through the beautifully lo-fi production to ensure that every notes holds it’s place in the overall beautiful musical schematic.
If you happen to be Japanese or even just have bag loads of money and free-time to match, then why not attend one of the tour gigs below. Satisfaction is pretty much guaranteed !
