Resounding Maybes

Track: Catch and Release  From: Murder Mittens (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
Recent additions to the Independent Artists page, Resounding Maybes, are a Shoegaze/Dream Pop/Indie Pop trio that offer up Shoegaze style rock with Pop sensibilities.
The core Shoegaze elements from bands like Ride and Slowdive are there – the jangly reverb-laden guitars, the mellow vocal harmonies –  but the Resounding Maybes do this with their own style…read full review at Dubtracks here.

Sonny & the Sunsets

Track: Androids  From: Self Awareness Through Macrame (album) Label: Rocks In Your Head Records Out: Album out 01 September 2023
Sonny & the Sunsets will be returning with the new album Self Awareness Through Macrame out August 25th via Rocks In Your Head Records. The new album follows 2021’s dual release of New Day with New Possibilities and the Fat Possum reissue of 2009’s Tomorrow Is Alright. Sonny & the Sunsets will be touring in August with W.I.T.C.H. as well.
Their new single “Androids” is out Wednesday 8/16 and capped off with a toe-tapping, fist-pumping “It’s all right” chorus, sees Sonny removing the self-reflective goggles for some vibey good times…from the promo submission.

Local Derby

Track: Bad Side  From: Bad Side (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Local Derby’s second single, ‘Bad Side’, will be released on August 18. It follows the duo’s debut track, ‘Forgive Forget’, which was featured on Spotify’s global Fresh Finds playlist as well as the Australian Local Noise playlist.
‘Forgive Forget‘ also received airplay on Australian national radio station Triple J. ‘Bad Side’ showcases the band’s energetic, pop side. With a vocal that rises above shimmering, chorus-laiden guitars, ‘Bad Side’ is inspired by the soaring melodies of Alvvays and The Smiths. The song explores the dichotomy of wanting to communicate but walking on eggshells, and recognising yourself in another person’s bad behaviour….from promo submission

St Cyrus

Track: All Eyes Are On Us  From: All Eyes Are On Us (single) Label: Philophobia Music Out: Now
My name is Chris Charlton and I write and produce music as St Cyrus. I live in the rhubarb triangle in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, UK.
Originally from Montrose, Scotland my first ever band was actually with Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite, aged 11. I then played in UK hardcore pop group Chopper (Crackle records, Fierce Panda) and then indie-emo band Pylon, championed by fellow Wakey pals The Cribs.
As St Cyrus I try to create melodic, catchy alt pop, think The Decemberists meets The Postal Service, but from Yorkshire…from the promo submission.

Bunny Slope

Track: Water Slide  From: Water Slide (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
When I first pressed play, it reminded me of Aussie outfit Dippers, sort of delivering this deadpan vocal over a really spritely bit of post-garage pop. But, where they make the sound their own here is when the chorus hits; you get a refreshing blast of boisterous antics, like the gang’s all together and just screaming joyously at the top of their lungs…see Austin Town Hall for full review here.

Porkboii

Track: She Just Wants To Know  From: She Just Wants To Know (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Porkboii is a 24 year old artist hailing from the small, legendary town of Redlands California. Their songs and music come straight from their porkheart.
After the disband of their first band in 2016, Porkboii picked up a guitar and for the first time sat down to learn how to play. Though they had already been writing melodies and lyrics for their previous band, this opened up an avenue for them to express themselves freely and without constraints from their band mates, so they started writing much more honest and raw songs.
That same year they started writing about their struggle with depression and interpersonal relationships, and erratically playing at open mic nights in their hometown. Since then Porkboii has kept writing non-stop, but they haven’t made a focused attempt to record and release music…from the promo submission

Bo Milli

Track: Come After Me  From: Come After Me (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
With a predisposition to self-criticise and a talent for turning that into art, Bo Milli is an essential new voice in music. Through her diaristic lyrics, the super smart environmentalist writes hook after hook as she navigates her inner conflict.
And indeed, in putting her own life into words, she has unknowingly narrated our collective existential angst. “Writing music is an emotional outlet, but it’s also a puzzle,” she says, reflecting on her craft. “Sentences come to me and I try to make the pieces fit together. And if just for a moment my music is a good thing in someone’s life, then I will take any opportunity to play it.”…from the promo submission.

Starcleaner Reunion

Track: Ribbon Le Chou  From: Ribbon Le Chou / Moss on my Brick Wall (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Let’s wrap up this recommendation with energetic shoegaze indie rock from NYC. I am enjoying the shoegaze guitars and the vibes they are creating. If you liked this track be sure to check out the other single as well.
Indeed, a nice way to end our recommendations with such a powerful and catchy track. I am really vibing to it and you will be too! You can find more music from the band on Spotify…read full article at Start-Track here.

Soft on Crime

Track: Catamaran  From: Rarities (Vol 1) (album) Label: Eats It Records and Tapes Out: Out 06.10.23
Krautrock, post-punk, agitated anxious The Feelies type jangle…a gloriously obtuse juxtaposition of aesthetics always works in the hands of Dublin threesome, Soft On Crime.

Broken Bow

Track: We Don’t Go  From: We Don’t Go (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Hot on the heels of July’s critically acclaimed Diminishing Returns EP, Frisco Texas based act, Broken Bow are back with another Elliot Smith / Pavement inflected track of dulcet jangled melancolic.

The Soods

Track: Don’t Let Me Go (I’ll Only Float Off Into Space)  From: Don’t Let Me Go (I’ll Only Float Off Into Space) (single) Label: GTG Records Out: Now
Loosely based on a Karl Pilkington quote revolving around the moon landing and one astronaut not even getting off the ship and thus becoming the “loneliest man in the world” comes The Soods first new recording of 2023 from their forthcoming album this fall on GTG Records.“…read full review at Start-Track.com here.

Maxton Waller

Track: Certain  From: Certain (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
“Certain” is included in the soundtrack to Universal Pictures feature film The List, to be released to theaters on August 22nd starring Halston Sage, Christian Navarro, and Chrissie Fit (Pitch Perfect)….from the promo submission

The Reflections

Track: Summer Nights  From: Summer Nights (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
This song sparks a nostalgia and longing for summers past, of lost loves and what could have been. The listener is brought on a journey arc through the four seasons — from the doldrums of the Winter, through the hope of the Spring into the Summer, only to ultimately falter with the Fall.
As the song concludes, the listener is encouraged to come alive to the present moment and not look to the past. “Let’s not look back, let’s be a light, just like in the days we shined so bright.”…from the promo submission.

Peli Gene

Track: Now You Know  From: Now You Know (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
I was getting that old shoegaze twist in the gut of yore once the guitars took off on a form of Chapterhouse (‘Pearl’) rampage and Peli Gene kept that feeling bubbling over via vocals that have all sorts of dreamy going for them. Ever so immersive, a song that produces us the sun, moon and stars and crucially delivers it in a intense swell of beats, jangle and those soaring words…see full review at mp3hugger here.

TOVE

Track: Moose Weather / Cruise Control  From:  My Heed is a Satellite (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
Taking the languid female chanteuse sound of Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy etc to new beautiful heights courtesy of smooth, laconic jangled energies, this Swedish based act add a glorious sense of stunning to the genre.

LORENZO BUHNE

Track: I Can’t See Nothing  From: Oznerol Era (album) Label: NocturnalSol Records Out: Now
Spending his time on three different continents, it’s clear that Buhne has a kaleidoscopic musical background that encompasses pop, punk, folk, Italian music, world music, psych, alt-rock, trip-hop, experimental, and electronica. In regards to his roots, Buhne says, “It’s hard to say what I am. I feel like a universal soldier, a universal citizen. Though I must say, during soccer games, I am Italian!”…from the promo submission.
