Thanks once again to everyone for joining us for Beat the Delete #0218, bringing you all the very best in submissions that we have received in the last couple of weeks.
As always, we hope you find a new favorite or become re-acquainted with an old one

This enigmatic Pere Pomme act gives very little away in his social media presence, merely stating that he is from Central Louisiana. This is really a shame, as this Don’t Know single would probably be gracing a multitude of year-end ‘best ofs’ lists if given the opportunity to write more about him.
Robert Kretzschmar, drummer for Anna Erhard, Kat Frankie, Masha Qrella, Das Paradies and Albertine Sarges, among others, is taking the long-awaited step into the world of solo musicians and will be releasing his debut album Homecoming in October.
This Let It Be track is what you can expect from Robert’s album: His almost Bossa Nova-like voice, alternating between hinting and singing, leads through catchy arrangements with ever surprising chord changes, reminiscent of Phoenix or the nonchalance of Mac DeMarco…adapted from the Bandcamp release bio.

Pop Crimes and Howlin Banana Records are collaborating to release the Gathered Together album on November 17, 2023, and this No More Cryin’ single is the perfect lead single to attract interest with its mix of glorious jangly garage rock and psyche.

Fans of the 60s-inflected pop melodies of Paul Ryan’s / Super 8 solo recording project may well love this Wild Apple Girl track from the Legends album of his 90s, Warrington-based Astrud project. Primal Scream meets The Beatles meets Madchester style World of Twist psyche.
Ryan Marquez has regularly suggested that his The Umbrella Puzzles solo recording project might be retiring. However, after each such suggestion, a new EP or another track forms in his mind that just has The Umbrella Puzzles ‘twangle-pop’ oozing through it. The latest release is this superb new On the Tip of My Tongue single.

Wexford, Ireland-based Justin Cullen is a man with a back record that simply exudes all manner of subtle melancholic guitar-pop and jangle-pop beauty, as song number 11 of the Frankenstein Bolts ‘song a month for a year’ initiative demonstrates.

No act has quite descended to the same perfect depths of the Elliott Smith-style jangly, lo-fi melancholy in the same manner as Cindy. Mixing such a sound with Whitney’s Playland’s stoic inertia, this Likely Story/Saw It All single out of Tough Love twists away at your heartstrings with sheer, shuddering emotionality.

Those of you who follow this regularly will know we regularly get ‘oh so very gushing fanboy’ over this Austin, Texas-based noise-pop/gaze Letting Up Despite Great Faults foursome. This gloriously hushed Cherry Splits single does nothing to dampen our love of their perfect blend of melodic and noise.

The ultra-melodic, jangly psyche-pop of this What Grows Inside The Garden (the b-side to the Rode My Bike single by Cardiff’s Soft Hearted Scientists that was released by Country Mile Records on 06.10.23) feels like a contest between the 1970s The Beatles and The Kinks, in a contest to establish who can be the most Kinks and Beatles like… obviously, the single is already sold out in physical format, but this track justifies any hard-earned shekel spent on it.

Sean Turner and his The Photocopies solo recording project will never really be able to drop the C86 nuances, as they are so indelibly woven into the fabric of his sound. On this We’re Not Photocopies track from his forthcoming Unprofessional Conduct album (out on October 20, 2023), he drifts such fuzz-laden playfulness through a darker, more dense vibe that takes him somewhere towards an early New Order aesthetic.

This It’s A Pain track from Bummer Camp’s new Big Deal EP shows what happens when an act is prepared to explore the musical crevices between goth-pop, grunge, and fuzz-rock and fill them with anti-melodies that cling to you long after the track finishes.
Fuzzed-out bass, solid drums, and crunchy guitars surround the bandā€™s signature melodic vocals in this catchy, feel-good song, which has been a crowd favorite at live shows and festival appearances. It shifts between power-pop and the sultry modernity of today’s jangle-pop chanteuse-led acts such as The Beths, Charly Bliss, and Snail Mail…adapted from the promo submission that perfectly describes this wonderful Sunlight single by Imperial April.
This Ford Econoline single from the His His solo recording project of Toronto’s Aidan Belo twists a slacker persuaded indie-folk energy through the subdued melancholy of the Elliot Smith-style lo-fi jangle to offer an immense beauty from perfect minimalism.

Lunar Isles is a longtime friend of JanglePopHubs’ Beat The Delete pages due to the frequency of his brilliant surf-tinged bedroom-pop meets jangle gaze sound. This Arrival single is typical of his beautifully isolated aesthetic.

Rose Hue by Waves Crashing continues to extol the virtues that were so prominent in their recent The Viewing EP, as unrelenting jangled riffs are crushed with shoegaze aural textures that augment the aesthetic with unmitigated intensity and dynamism from start to finish.

Jangly dream-pop reminiscent of Bobsled Team, Torrey, or Beach Fossils married to a twee-pop The Pains of Being Pure of Heart sense of sweet vocals is the modus operandi of this Graveyard Romance single off The Resounding Maybe’s second full-length Murder Mittens album.

This latest All I Die For single from Swiims forthcoming Into The Blue Night album (Mint 400 Records) invites the listener to a game ofĀ  ‘decipher a genre’ as dream-pop, shoegaze, jangle-pop and 80s new wave all combine to create beautiful introspective beauty out of a multitude of colliding aural textures.

With an Into Your Arms (The Lemonheads) melodic guitar-pop appeal juxtaposed with the twanging guitars of The Zesty Italians and The Umbrella Puzzles, this Coffin single by Los Angeles-based Ian The Idiot fulfills just about every slacker-rock desire you could have.

Nashville-based Matched is the collaborative project of husband and wife duo Ben Parks and Emily Townsend Hall, who both grew up in the heart of Music City. Ben and Emily blend their diverse musical backgrounds to create something all their own. Their debut single, “Give In,” drops on October 17th, 2023, marking the start of their musical journey as Matched….from their promo submission

“Indie/shoegaze/psychadelic pop/rock ā€“ many genres are triggered once listening to llawgne! But he is nevertheless brilliant and back with a new Chrysanthemum Rock single! – from the promo submission.
This Pull Me Under single by Social Wave moves within Beach Vacation / Beach Fossils style jangly surf-pop circles whilst always keeping one foot very firmly with the climate of dream-pop isolation. Stunning from start to finish.
For those of you who prefer their jangle-pop modernity married to a slightly dreamy sense of the late 80s, this Going Home single from Lomma’s (the solo recording project of Evan Lomnitzer) new Torrey Pines third album (released 06.10.23) should tick just about every box available.

Wish Queen,Ā aka Cleveland-based singer/songwriter Grace Sullivan, assumes the delicate, washed, jangly beauty of the Weyes Blood, Lucy Dacus, and Beach House aesthetic whilst always assuming the best aspiration of feminine strength in a truly stunning Grievances single.
