EP Review – Field Ache E.P. by Cream 2000 (2023) (Self released)

Cream2000

Cream 2000 and their Field Ache E.P drifted past me until recently, primarily because it was released just before Christmas, when I was trying to avoid a million Christmas song submissions from artists insisting that ‘we don’t usually do anything as uncool as Christmas songs, but we just thought we would send you this one.” …blurggghhh!

When it was safe to come out again, the subtleties of this release helped wash away everything that was so musically middle-class cutesy about music at Xmas, with beautiful tracks that are best represented by Streets One Twelve, the simply superlative standout of Seasonal Appendectomy (an apt title if ever there was one!) and Still No Monsters, taking the fractious isolation of acts such as Mr. Floyd Larry and Middleneck and stripping away everything that could be considered the slightest bit spurious (including lyrics for this EP is fully instrumental) to leave nothing but beautifully tight, spindly, jangly riffs that simply resonate with glorious simplicity.

Another to add to your headphones in the dark collection.
