Madrid’s Shimmer: Nuevos Mundos Blend Jangle Pop and Shoegaze on new “Este Invierno” album

Just over a year after their self-titled debut album announced their arrival with fuzz pop brilliance, Madrid-based foursome Nuevos Mundos return with their latest release, ‘Este Invierno’, on the ever-reliable Meritorio Records—a label renowned for curating the best of the modern jangle-pop adjacent scene.
This new album essentially unfolds as a double EP, combining their initial Mis Plantas’ EP with four fresh tracks. The release explores two distinct, yet interconnected, sonic nuances. Songs like the title track, “Ya está bien,” and “Invitada” inhabit the delicate intersection where jangle-pop brushes up against shoegaze. Here, the band crafts subtle soundscapes that evoke comparisons to acts such as Lush or Yea Ming and the Rumours, blending dreamy guitar textures with gentle melodies.
In contrast, tracks like ‘Burofax’ and ‘Domingos en casa’ open with lucid, jangling riffs before building into a dynamic swirl of psych-rock and whirring fuzz. This progression injects a spirited energy into the album, adding a powerful dimension that complements the ever-present lushness of their sound.
With ‘Este Invierno,’ Nuevos Mundos demonstrate both growth and versatility, bridging the intimacy of their earlier work with bolder, more expansive sonic explorations. The result is a release that not only affirms their place in the modern indie landscape but also invites listeners to experience the full spectrum of their evolving artistry.
The vinyl LP and digital are available from Meritorio Records here.
