Beat The Delete #0114 (weekly new music recommendations)

btd0014 (1)

Perhaps I am just a bit grumpier than normal? Perhaps my jangle receptors are beginning to die a natural death…but for some reason I have been hitting the delete button quicker than a husband deleting his cellphone (porn) history, when his wife wants to borrow his phone !!!
However, these fourteen great tracks / acts have made it through my personal malaise, to provide you with this week’s some brilliant new music.

Friends Don’t Die

Track: Another Day  From: Back Then (EP) Label: Z Tapes Out: Now
The vocals and propulsive indie rock sense of stadium, are beautifully tempered by the whole fuzzy, subtle gaze thing. LA based, Friends Don’t Die have been the purveyors of consistent brilliance over the last 6 months or so.

Basement Sweet

Track: Another Day  From: Another Day (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
This, the solo project of Seth Petersen from Calgary, Canada, will appeal to all of those who love the beautiful surf-pop melodic / slacker pop of acts like Charlie Duda and Fletcher.

Husbands

Track: Must Be A Cop  From: Full On Monet (single) Label: Self released Out: Album release date TBA
The perfect mix of left field faux punk, Surf Curse dynamism and Pavement style downplayed riffs from this Oklahoma City duo.

Cathedral Pearls

Track: Wasted Days  From: Sun After Sun (single) Label: Self released Out: Album release date TBA
Krissy Vanderwoude meets Mazzy Starr style sultry vocals, coursed through the dreamy jangle of the Beach House / Real Estate vibe. Total beauty in this 5+ minute epic.

Zaatar.gov

Track: In Dreams  From: In Dreams (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Zaatar.gov is Nader Ibrahim and Ian Howard from Houston, TX and they provide a left field, ambient jangle that is reminiscent of Swiss Portrait style, melodic semi-gaze distance and total cold wave infirmity.

Space Daze

Track: Don’t Mind  From: Visible Spectrum (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
This solo project of Danny Rowland of Seapony fame, jangles with a slight gaze-laden dream-pop sensibility, whilst somehow still managing to nibble at the fringes of the best of modern guitar pop.

Saturnine Sighs

Track: Swoon  From: Swoon (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Dream-pop meets the more lucid end of gaze. It’s all very L I P S with added boy-girl interplay and a sense of lo-fi indie-chic, that only the best of bedroom-pop can ever really provide. A truly beautiful track from this Ontario based due of Brenden McAuley and Bree Kane.

Girlfriends and Boyfriends

Track: Dirty Words  From: Fallacy of Fairness (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
The Smiths style vocal inflections and jangled propensities, meets Post-Punk isolation and the more subtle control of late 80s New Wave. A great sense of the best of retro, from this Vancouver based foursome.

Freak Waves

Track: Snowcap  From: Freak Waves (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
With the melodic modern rock of a Beeef style indie rock type band, mixed with a sense of subtle fuzz, this Columbus Ohio based duo of Ryan Gunterand and Connor Stewart, have a sense of rock melody that belies their tender years.

Old Fashioned Bleeding Hearts

Track: Another Day  From: Another Day (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Fuzzy, melodic, power pop, from the solo project of New York’s Colton Tracy. Dynamism personified in a perfect 2 minute storm.

Johnathon McCombe

Track: Baby Move On  From: One More (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
The Pierce Kingans style, Lo-fi / bedroom-pop jangly weirdness, with an added sense of inhibited funk. McCombe has the tendency to make originality an absolute blessing!

No Kill

Track: Eddie Vedder  From: Gold Chorus (album) Label: Substitute Scene Records Out:  Album out 25.06.21
Mazzy Starr, meets Nico vocal textures, meets melodic fuzz-laden dream-pop. An absolutely beautiful mixture of subtle textures from this Jamie Cogar led project.

Juleah

Track: Eat Sleep Sun  From: Stoked on Planet Summer (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
Neo psyche and the haziest, jangliest sense of laconic surf rock, are the perfect mix of Austrian, Julia Hummer‘s, one-woman project.

Tall McCartney

Track: I’m Gonna Love You  From: Drunk and In Love (EP) Label: Good Neighbour Records Out: Now
Lo-fi psyche rock juxtaposed with the jangly core that provides the most luxuriant slacker vibe.
