Beat The Delete #0184 (weekly new music recommendations)
Many thanks for joining us for Beat The Delete #0184. Bringing you 17 tracks that braved the flurry of Bandcamp Friday submissions the world’s gmails are blighted by, to actually give us some new music that does not involve the words, ‘re-issue’, ‘re-mix’, ‘demo’, ‘cover’… etc etc in its promo blurb.
We hope you find a new favourite or become re-aquainted with an old one in the tracks / acts below.
Track: Worthy of Nothing From: Worthy of Nothing (single) Label: We Were Never Being Boring Collective / Subjangle Out: Now
The Wends were Turin’s Smile, whose named has changed, thanks to Thom Yorke and his inferior new project.
What has not changed though is the jangle rock sound that they have so readily made their signature sound. This is the first brilliant single from their latest album that will be released at the end of the month.
The Vacant Shapes
Track: Everything You Know From: How Much Time Does It Take to Heal? (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
If the remainder of their superb How Much Time Does It Take to Heal? EP, thrashes out the faux melodies of The Pixies, this outlier of The Cure type, jangly post punk, shows the versatility of this Californian threesome.
Track: Montese From: Pastimes (album) Label: Z Tapes Out: Now
Lying somewhere equidistant between lo-fi, Belle and Sebastian laconic and Grandaddy spacious, this Stockton, California based duo make sumptuous beauty out of the purest of languid.
I Was A King
Track: Lo Pressure From: Follow Me Home(album) Label: Self released Out: Now
“The Norwegian band I Was a King blend various forms of guitar pop (shoegaze, jangle pop, power pop) into a warm and melodic sound built around chiming, sometimes blown-out, guitars and rich vocal harmonies” (taken from Spotify bio).
Those who love the jangly warmth of the Cozy Slippers sound may well have found their latest guitar-pop darlings in this Norwegian foursome.
Track: St.Matthews Days From: St.Matthews Days (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
The Northern version of ‘The Jangling Man‘…this Peak District (UK) based artiste is all manner of lo-fi home made jangle in the manner of Martin Newell/ The Cleaners From Venus.
Track: Disabled Step From: The Gold Baton (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
This Portland, Maine, based foursome offer left field lo-fi delivered via the more unusual roots of jangly fuzz-pop and retro, The Velvet Underground style production. One of the most strangely invigorating and original sounds of 2022 so far.
Track: Next Right Thing From: The Morality of Heart Transplants (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
Imagine The Hold Steady style of burnished, bar room Americana with the jangle button formly pressed and you are just about in the right musical ball park of this Baton Rouge quintet who make the best ‘lived in’ rock out there.
Track: Take A Hint From: Take A Hint (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Never has a band’s promo blurb been so perfect apt…”Blending the upbeat harmony frequencies that are reminiscent of Good Morning and the singer-songwriter lo-fi style of Tyler Burkhart, Dress Warm is about finding yourself in your ‘alternate lit’ bedroom at 4 AM and for the sunset drives after a long day at the public pool”
Raised on TV
Track: Around The Sun From: Around The Sun (single) Label: Sell The Heart Records Out: Now
San Fernando threesome, Raised On TV, take indie rock’s incessant tempos and abrasive percussion and infuse it with jangled riffs. With the energy of the Ducks Ltd sound, this is jangly indie rock at it’s finest.
Conflict at Serenity Pools
Track: Good Pedestrian From: California Poppy (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
Left field lo-fi rock, has never felt so obtuse, jangly and perversely melodic all at once. Once of those tracks that beguiles with its idiosyncracities from start to finish.
Track: The Weight of the Weekend From: The Weight of the Weekend (single) Label: Lustre Out: Now
This is the first music released by Nadine Appeldoorn aka Mazey Hazesince her superb Always Dancing EP of October 2021.
Always able to find the lucidity of that Pixey style jangled riff and augment it with the most stunning of dream-pop swirling textures, Mazey Haze is a breakout act waiting to happen.
Track: Alice From: Alice (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Augmenting the psychobilly / psyche-pop mix of the Edward Sharpe and the Magenetic Zeros aesthetic with the best of midern day lo-fi jangly sensibilities, this is a sound your mouse contunually gravitates towards.

Track: Her/She Kisses From: Ether(single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Shoegaze married to Bauhaus era post-punk and the glorious droning insistence of The Dancing Did. A truly superb single.
Track: Strawberryache From: Strawberryache (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
I have been known to shy away from this sort of Sam Florian meets commercial sound, but there is something so smooth, so endearing and so suavely jangly about this sound, that I just cannot stop playing it!
Track: The Golden Sun From: The Golden Sun (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Gloriously obtuse, like a troubador trying to confuse the world, the Spotify bio of this single is spot in it’s summation of this track stating: “‘The Golden Gun’. It is a Latin-tinged, multi-layered, guitar-based, extra-hyphenated glorious piece of dream-pop ear-candy”.
