Churchill Garden

Track: Keep The Faith  From: Keep The Faith (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Once again, The Churchhill Garden have pushed the boundaries of their sound and style. “Keep the Faith” begins with a hint of a fast Northern Soul track and then dissolves into a noisy chorus, reminiscent of the Madchester era. Small guitar parts in the background occasionally recall the guitar pop of The Smiths, and above all, Krissy’s lyrics inspire the courage to keep going, even when things aren’t going well.
Andy wasn’t entirely sure if the song would really work at first, but during the mixing process, it became clear that it does, and everyone who had the chance to hear it beforehand was caught tapping their feet to the beat. …from the promo submission

Bright Islands

A Beacon School

Track: Potion  From: Yoyo (album) Label: Grind Select Out: Album out 22 Sept 2023
Dreampop with a sharp and occasionally dystopian edge, Potion is possessed of a sense of a comfort that invites feeling of unease, but also a lush sonic bliss you easily lose yourself in. The song will feature on yoyo, the follow-up album to A Beacon School’s 2018 Cola album….read full review at Analogue Trash here.

Hause Plants

Track: Marcy Avenue  From: Field Trip To Coney Island EP (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
I feel like I rarely get to hear music from Portugal, at least in so far as the style of jams I’m into comes along. But, Hause Plants just shared this rad new track that immediately had me from the moment the song trampled into my ear drums. Take a breath, settle in, and the guitars and rolling drums will rush you right into the track, all before it opens up into a dreamier state of being…read full review Austin Town Hall here.

Matt McClure

Track: Magazine Street From: Magazine Street (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
For all the creativity that is being pushed out in the indie scene nowadays, I do really miss the wittier bits of pop that you’d get from wordsmiths like a David Berman, weaving mundane existence into catchy tracks that bounce in your head…just like Matt McClure.
He once fronted The Figurants (which I suggest you check out), but recently has been going it on his own, and there’s a new LP on the way with this track below. For me, you get the best bits of Matt’s work, offering up those clever lyrical lines, backed by really solid bedroom pop vibes…read full review at Austin Town Hall, here.

Blonde Bones

Track: Daisy From: Daisy (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
“Daisy” is a indie/jangle pop love song about an affair between a semi-pro golfer and her caddy. Picture a posh country club circa 1993, the caddy wonders “Am I a paper wasp, landing on a pastel collar?” not sure if he fits in, but falling harder each week. Like a cold lemonade, the vocals wash over Smiths-esque guitar chords in each verse, leading to a soaring chorus of doubled synths and glassy guitar strums…from the promo submission

Jeff Moller

Track: Sad To See The Sun Go Down From: Sigh Baby (album) Label: Royal Oakie Records Out: Album 22.09.23
“Sigh Baby” is the debut album by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Moller. The album finds him exploring his background in indie-rock, garage, psych, and country through ten slacker anthems that sound like a fog-pop Tom Petty. Building on his experience as a journeyman musician, the album features contributions from a handful of friends as well as current and former bandmates, including members of Sugar Candy Mountain, Papercuts, Michael James Tapscott, Young Moon, Indianna Hale, Magic Magic Roses, and more….from the promo submission

Matthew and the Arrogant Sea

Track: Targets  From: If You Find Yourself Floating Away (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
…The band’s deliberate use of misty sonics, coupling it with gloomy moods and fuzzy textures sets the tone for the song. It is the perfect atmosphere to flesh out the romanticism in anger and betrayal. The listener can’t help but appreciate the uncommon reconciliation of such emotional pallets with mellow rock moments.
Matthew’s vocal ring of warm baritones and cool falsettos is the melting pot that makes it all work. Dispersing synths and electric guitar melodies engage at a molten crossroad that beams with subtle grace and sublime melody as the track rolls to its end. ..read full review by Good Music Radar here.

Far Caspian

Track: Pet Architect  From: The Last Remaining Light (album) Label: Tiny Library Records Out: Album out 14 July 2023
The timeless indie-rock delight, bolstered by kinetic guitar riffs and a steady drum beat, arrives with a claymation video by Alistair Nicholls. “I wrote ‘Pet Architect’ after a Crohn’s flare up I had on tour that made me feel alienated from the rest of the group,” explains the project of Leeds, UK-based Irish musician Joel Johnston—today. “I try my best not to feel sorry for myself or dwell on my situation but certain times have pushed me into frustration. In that moment, all I wanted was to feel ‘normal’ instead of lying on the floor in pain in the airport baggage claim.
Whenever I got home I was in the headspace of wishing I was back to how I was before my diagnosis. I was reading about Japanese architecture and how they filled in tiny spaces on the street between buildings with condensed buildings and I felt like that worked as a metaphor for how I felt being pushed into an illness that wasn’t there previously.”…read full review at Northern Transmissions here.

Eyesore & the Jinx

Track: No More Nails  From: Jitterbug (album) Label: Self released Out: Album out 17 November 2023
Eyesore & The Jinx’s new one ‘No More Nails’ is the first single to come from their forthcoming debut album, ‘Jitterbug’. The new album was recorded at Yellowbird Studio during the Summer of 2022 and produced by Daniel Fox. The band have also announced a string of shows throughout July and have also shared details of a headline date in their home city of Liverpool in September.
This new single has picked up early support from Amazing Radio, who stuck it straight onto their C list. Alongside a variety of blog coverage it was also selected for a Record of The Day feature.
‘No More Nails’ sets the scene on the topic of ‘Jitterbug’, with Josh Miller of the fidgety-post-punk trio saying, “When setting out to write our debut album, I didn’t have a theme in mind. Instead I chose to write about whichever subject felt most pertinent at the time. Over the course of several months though, it became clear that there was a consistent thread amongst the songs regarding control or lack thereof, particularly in relation to the human body.”…read full review at Broken 8 Records here.

Keeley

Track: Arrive Alive  From: Floating Above Everything Else (album) Label: Dimple Discs Out: Album 30 June 2023
As for the full-length album, expected June 30th via Dimple Discs, Keeley, an avid true crime historian says, “This album is dedicated to the memory and short life of German teenager Inga Maria Hauser. It’s an album that’s a journey in every sense.
More than any other album I know it metaphorically and literally documents actual journeys – life journeys, train journeys, ferry journeys, the journey of a long-standing murder investigation, and the journey my own life has gone on in relation to it over the past seven years”…read full review at Global Texan Chronicles here

Bo Milli

Track: Making Friends From: Making Friends (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Bergen, Norway-based indie-rock rising star Bo Milli has returned with her new single ‘Making Friends’ ahead of a busy schedule of festivals this summer. The new single follows a string of standalone tracks released across the past 12 months which has seen her tipped as one the next breakout musicians to come out of Norway.
Re-creating the chaos and indiscipline of nights out in Bergen, ‘Making Friends’ tracks the expectations, contradictions and drama of nocturnal social interactions through a haze of tumultuous indie-rock.

Dani Mack

Track: Everybody’s Watching From: Everybody’s Watching (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
When last we heard from Baylee Barrett, aka dani mack, she was serving up the lo-fi pop of Nothing Better,” but she’s back on the blog today with the indie rocking Everybody’s Watching.”
No time is wasted here, and Barrett begins her moody vocal as soon as the track is underway. NPR has compared her music to that of Liz Phair and while we tend to agree, please let it be known that Barrett can certainly hold her own vocally. And while her voice is certainly a highlight within Everybody’s Watching,” the rest of the arrangement should not be ignored…read full review at Up To Hear, here.

A Days Wait

Track: Indelible (feat Lisa) From: Indelible (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
A brilliant emotive indie pop record that you feel to your core. The sound runs wild in its own creativity with a stand out sound that genre bends at a high level, to make for the perfect record to get lost in.
To match the sound you get vocals that are masterful at conveying the right amount of emotion and vulnerability, to add more life to the writing that takes on people that come and leave a true mark in your life in a special way…read full review at the Globe Is Yours here

Track: Everything To Lose From: Ave Maria (EP) Label: Self released Out: EP release date TBA.

Gus and the TV

Track: Introvertebrate From: 52 (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
The summer solstice would seem a good time to release an album of 52 songs that encompass the seasons of the calendar year, and so it is. June 21, 2023 marks the official release by GUS AND THE TV of their third album, 52, consisting of 52 new songs, with a new video to be released each week over the coming year.

Qozy

Track: Slumber Party From: Sleep Over (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
Qozy released the Sleep Over EP last week, and it took me a minute to catch on, but as I did, I reckoned there were a handful of folks would be like-minded. Of the handful of tracks on the EP, “Pieces” is one that I keep gravitating towards, particularly as it keeps providing this warped vision that seems to kind of hang on the edges of my own sanity…Read full review at Austin Town Hall here

Springbo

Track: Pipeline Confessional From: The Book of Duderonomy (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
The spirit of early 1960’s surf rock Dick Dale wrapped up in the energy of the genre’s modernity. Those with a love for old school surf rock may well have found a new darling in this Chicago based act.

Squirrel

Track: Beach House From: Beach House (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Basically I just make whatever I want to make. I pretty much sit down and try to find the easiest way to convey a feeling or idea through sound – whether it be a noisy pop song, a stripped-back folk song, or a 5 minute collage of radio static and guitar feedback.
Life has definitely given me a lot of great things to write about, too. You can say a lot of things about my music but you can’t say it’s boring…promo submission

  1. Great review from the song from The Churchill Garden.
    Northern Soul is mentioned.
But the song which is linked should be a complete other song.
It’s an instrumental track, Did something go wrong?
