Soft Covers

Track: The Real Housewives of Porpoise Spit  From: Soft Serve (album) Label: Little Lunch Records / Hidden Bay Records Out: Album out 06 October 2023
Infused with nostalgic, soul-stirring emotional pain, “The Real Housewives of Porpoise Spit” arouses steady urgent drum beats, soft bass pulses, and sadly wandering vibrant ringing guitar riffs, enhanced by warm bittersweet trumpet-like keyboard swells, to underlie evocative atmospheric vocals, dropping high angsty melancholia with sad baritone haloes and distant choral echoes, telling the tale of an old lonely woman who dreams about being perfect like the fabled Ms. Jones…Read White Light/White Heat for full review here.

Rum Jungle

Track: Dash of Speed  From: Dash of Speed (single) Label: Sureshaker Out: Album release date TBA
Rum Jungle,four-piece pop-punk group based out of Newcastle (AU), are a rambunctious yet intelligent and wildly talented bunch. A recent interview with Newcastle Live ahead of their performance at The Cambridge Hotel Farewell Festival saw the boys candidly swap back and forth between their goofy and humorous personalities to their serious, professional demeanors, making sure to properly pay homage to the decades of music and service put on by the Australian landmark.
That kind of energy is reflected in their music… the kind of youthful, exuberant mid-tier theatre sound mixed with reflective, intimate lyricism and melodies. However, they also have range and defined emotional footpaths. Popular tune “Everything Is Easy” could have easily fit onto Harry Styles’ Harry’s House while “Keep” is the kind of island-breeze surfer sound, with an excellent vocal performance by Benny, that they could do in their sleep.

Bollard

Track: Montreal Donuts  From: Lo (album) Label: Self released Out: Album release date TBA
Their second album, “Lo”, is a collection of songs written and recorded in the midst of lockdown. The concise and measured sound draws their previous offerings all the while finding new directions and taking on a myriad of influences…from the promo submission.

Yesterday’s Flowers

Track: Keep Moving  From: Step Into The Light  (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
“‘Keep Moving’ sort of became a personal mantra of mine through some pretty dark times in the past three years: a reminder to keep going and looking ahead to the future, without compromising my values or principles. ‘Keep moving / Hold onto what is mine’.
Even though, lyrically, it came out of a lot of turmoil and uncertainty, there’s something uplifting and hopeful about the sound – I hope that’s the energy that people can feel when they listen to it.” – Lucy Atkins …from the promo submission.

An Overnight Low

Track: Step Into The Light  From: Step Into The Light  (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
Maine’s An Overnight Low might have quietly sent us the nicest surprise in our pop gift bag though. They’re new EP dropped today, and the title track is a nice power-pop number to introduce you to what’s in store.
Heavy riffs ring melodically, matched by vocal harmonizing, feeling like an added instrument in its own right. Honestly, this track wouldn’t be out of place on a Teenage Fanclub LP, as its got just enough stomp to keep rock fans, though definitely leaning into the group’s pop inclinations…Read full review at Austin Town Hall here.

Diners

Track: Someday I’ll Go Surfing  From: Domino  (EP) Label: Bar None Records Out: Album out 18 August 2023
It was just over a year ago that Blue Broderick released her last full-length as Diners, though her follow-up to last-summer’s Four Wheels and the Truth is already shaping up to be pretty far removed from that record’s bubblegum-pop melodies.
Written and recorded following a move from Phoenix to LA, Domino’s early singles lean into the Southern Californian legacy of surf-rock music while bolstered by the power-pop sensibilities brought to the table by the album’s producer Mo Troper. “This is the rock record that I always wanted to make,” Broderick shared in a press release leading up to Domino’s release. “I know that any time I turn it on, it’s what I set out to do.” …read full review at Flood Magazine here

Trademark Issues

Track: Awake In Tokyo  From: 601 Deluxe (album) Label: Self released Out:  Now
(North Carolina / Minnesota) A two-person, long-distance band who members met in 2019 and have since spoken directly only twice. We draw on influences we love from power pop, jangle pop and chamber pop with the occasional foray into things heavier.
We take songwriting inspiration from and enjoy wordplay around our obscure interests. We like it when we’re called “catchy,” and our favorite reviewer word used to describe us so far is “beguiling.” Our fourth full-length album 601 DELUXE releases on July 28, 2023….from the promo submission.

O Jonas

Track: Yesterday  From: Yesterday (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Imagine that Sarah Records resurrected and signed a small town Swedish shoegaze lover who had spent too much time listening to João Gilberto and Nara Leão. What would that sound like?
Imagine a melancholic Momus trying to write Beatles-like songs, and then asking Ride to perform them. What would be the result? O Jonas! is the project of an indie kid who got old but never really grew up, an introvert exhibitionist obsessed with melodies and harmonies. Making music in Brazil, Sweden and Portugal….from the promo submission.

Die Zärtlichkeit

Track: Star  From: Heimweh Meisterwerke (album) Label: Tapete Records Out:  Album out 08 September 2023
Die Zärtlichkeit is a German jangle pop band from Cologne. Die Zärtlichkeit are Andreas Fischer (vocals, lyrics), Tobias Emmerich (music, lyrics), Merlin Engelien (bass, lyrics) and David Dasenbrook (drums).

All releases unexpectedly found national and international appeal in indie pop circles…from the promo submission.

The Ferrules

Track: Somehow  From: Igrzyska  (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
“The Ferrules are a five-piece band from Tricity, Poland, whose music is somewhere on the broadly defined alternative rock spectrum and moves along it from shoegaze, through post-rock, all the way to anything else that complements the band’s overall sound.“
It has been a while since I shared a Polish band, so I am glad to bring you this discovery from our neighboring country. The EP blends shoegaze with post-rock creating a nice blend of melodic noise…see full review at Start-Track here.

Baby Combat

Track: Song For The Karens From: Song For The Karens (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
Baby Combat is best described as a ‘jangle-adjacent’ act, always managing to find different way to infuse ‘whatever sound they have chosen today’ with a jangled essence, this single takes them to a perfectly despairing emo sound that is tethered in their usual brilliance.

Are We Hunting

Track: Sorta Like Me – Version 2 From: Sorta Like Me – Version 2 (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
If Frank Black were to front The Replacements in their most playful, languid moments, Are We Hunting might be the superbly original sound that is produced.

The Half Of Universe

Track: HDIF  From: About Time and Rainbows (Models) (album) Label: Self released Out: Now
This is a song about feeling stuck in life, it’s about those “what if?” we sometimes think, talking about its production it’s really special for us because it was recorded using an Iphone and a pair of $4 earphones, so we believe it shows creativity and inspiration at its full expression…artist promo submission.

Cinema Hearts

Track: Fender Factory  From: I Want You (EP) Label: Self released Out: Now
DC-based songwriter Caroline Weinroth, who releases music under the name Cinema Hearts, has announced that her sophomore EP I Want You will be released September 22. She also shared the project’s lead single, the ’60s-girl-group-influenced “Fender Factory,” which was inspired by her tour of the famous guitar workshop in Corona, California.
“I went with my family when I was 20 and was the only girl in the group,” Weinroth shared in a press release. “I was really excited to visit since I play a Fender Jaguar, and I love the surf rock history of Fender. I told this to the male tour guide, and he made fun of me the whole tour and quizzed me on random guitar parts to see if I was a ‘real’ guitarist. I cried after and wrote this song. It’s since become an anthem to subvert the machismo of rock music.”…read full review at Flood Magazine here.

Hattara

Track: Lentosuukkoi  From: Soft Serve (album) Label: Little Lunch Records / Hidden Bay Records Out: Album out 06 October 2023
“Lentosuukkoi” is Hattara’s sophomore single. The title comes from the Finnish word lentosuukkoi which means flying kisses. The song is carried by crystalline guitar strums with basslines alternating between glacial and vaporous. The bittersweet vocals harken back to those late August nights turning into early mornings; summer comedowns with sunrises: “I think I could love you but I don’t know if I know how to fall in love,” the chorus asks…from the promo submission.

Anton Barbeau

Track: Waiting on the Radio  From: Morgenmusik/Nachtschlager (album) Label: Think Like A Key Music Out: Album out 22 September 2023.
Glide is excited to premiere the video for the standout track “Waiting On The Radio,” which features a guest appearance from the legendary Colin Moulding of XTC, who adds harmony vocals and Chamberlin. Andy Metcalfe, formerly of Robyn Hitchcock’s Soft Boys/Egyptians (and Barbeau’s erstwhile bandmate along with Morris Windsor in Three Minute Tease), plays bass; Julian Cope guitarist/producer Donald Ross Skinner adds twang-meets-spacerock lead guitar. Charlie Crabtree is on drums, and UK-based singer-songwriter Rosie Abbott, dB’s legend Chris Stamey, and longtime Ant-collaborator Allyson Seconds augment the track with final-touch vocals. As one might expect, the song fuses power pop, folk-rock, glam and psych-pop to make for a sound that feels fresh, exciting and downright infectious….read full review at Glide Magazine here.

Myre Steps

Track: 24th Street  From: 24th Street / Ghost Town (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Myre Steps is a band we unofficially formed in 2020. Based out of Hurley, Mississippi, we truly began the process in 2021 and unfortunately lost a couple of our crew mates along the way. Currently comprised of three virtual life-long friend; we have worked tirelessly to grow our sound. As untrained musicians, we like to create tunes we enjoy and attempt to refine them in every way available. We like to incorporate the genres that influence our taste in music. That ranges from rock, indie, and folk music, to funk, soul, and blues…from the promo submission

Swiss Portrait

Track: Always From: The Crippling Pain of Happiness  Label: Start-Track Out: Now
“Always,” written about Terence’s brother who passed away when he was eight years old, is one of the more direct tracks on the album, with lyrics that point towards the thesis of the album as a whole: the notion that pain must exist for there to be happiness at all. The track opens slightly muted, akin to slowly wading into a pool to test the waters.
Soon, however, the pool bursts, allowing a torrent of sentiment to flow freely. “It’s always been this way,” Terence repeats in the atmospheric, yet stable chorus, the guitar strong, steady, and effortlessly resilient. The track as a whole seems to gesture towards the idea that healing is a perpetual process, and coming to terms with the notion that it may never be complete…read full review at Kid With A Vinyl here.

Loser Company

Track: Vivarium  From: Vivarium (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Their newest single, “Vivarium,” is a mesmerizing fusion of grunge and shoegaze, enveloping listeners in a dreamy, moody summer track. With brother-sister vocals that blend effortlessly, the song echoes a nostalgic Oasis-like sound, perfect for melancholic indie summer playlists.

Elijah Hart

Track: Pandora From: Pandora (single) Label: Self released Out: Now
Originally from Tennessee, USA, moving to the gold coast when i was 6, I’ve grown up with a very musical family but I didn’t start playing any instruments until I was ten. Starting on the Cello in 2013 would lead me to learn other stringed instruments, moving over to double bass and eventually electric bass and guitar. Since then i have learned how to play over 15 instruments, ranging from from a typical rock band to just about everything in a symphony orchestra.
I didn’t really get into recording music until I was 17 and since then i have developed a love for vintage analog tech. All my music is recorded, mixed and mastered on tape in my home studio using an 8-track recorded and several reel to reels.

Being from Tennessee, naturally I picked up the banjo and other bluegrass instruments so my music wildly ranges from psychedelic rock to bluegrass while still managing to still have a very distinctive Elijah Hart sound…from the promo submission
