EP Review – Back In December by Beech (2024) (Uhm Yeah Sure Records)

Beech

Coming from the Deist (Belgium)-based label that helped give Stoop Kid to the world Uhm Yeah Sure Records appear to have unearthed another glorious find in the shape of this Kristof Souvagie-fronted Beech act.
Their first new music in over two years, this Back in December EP is a barely concealed offering to the gods of 90s guitar-pop. As such, the release is bookended by Going Away and the title track, which offer the jangly, fuzzy smoothness of Teenage Symphonies to God-era Velvet Crush as they float upon incessant energy spliced with melodic slacker rock.
The other two tracks continue a 90s homage, with Back Where You Belong being the best solo project Evan Dando track that Dando never quite found time to pen, whereas those that love everything about the crystalline jangled riffs of the recent The Radio Field aesthetic will revel in the sound of the superlative She Sits In The Sun.
The best EP of 2024 so far!
