With the exception of a new found propensity towards ‘jangle twang’, thankfully  Ducks Ltd second Harms Way album never really changes the jangled freneticism template of a Modern Fiction debut that had all the micro-blogs that matter clambering over each other to throw as many platitudes as possible in their direction.
Harms Way is destined to reinforce such untethered enthusiasm. Directed through the loose lyrical persuasions of man’s inadequate reaction to societal malaise in tracks best represented by the midtempo jangled diatribes of Hollowed Out, Cathedral City, Deleted Scenes, and the title track, this is the jangliest of indie rock spliced with dominant isolated riffs and subtle echoed vocals, i.e., the sound that we will always probably remember this act by.
However, perhaps this second full release sees the band move more steadfastly into more jangle rock territories. The Main Thing, On Our Way To The Rave, and A Girl Running are all moving with highly driven tempos that cushion the fall of jangled riffs that seem to tumble over each other in an enthralling quest for dominance.
Toronto’s finest remain totally essential to the jangle-pop genre!
