Album Review – No Shame no Fame by Kindsight (2024) (Rama Lama Records)

RamaLama

Two years after the debut Swedish Punk album presented itself as a poster child for an “all killer, no filler” saying that gives me the ick as much as ‘bangers’, Danish foursome Kindsight are back with a No Shame No Fame follow-up that once again forces me to search for more erudite terms to replace the above terms as this album simply does not have a track that ever even begins to sidle away from brilliance.
Sliding between two primary, inter-linked nuances tracks best represented by Tomorrow, Killing Eye, the simply sublime standout of Terracotta Team Song, and Top 10 Things You Need in the City juxtapose the vocal sweetness of Nina Hyldgaard Rasmussen (akin to that of fellow Scandinavians, Holy Now) with the swirling, isolated production of Alvvays to create a jangly dream-pop aesthetic that is simultaneously beautiful and cinematic.
Love You Baby All The Time and Madhouse Breakout Multitool shifts the essence more towards a mid-album celebration of the 90s with a The Cranberries/The Cardigans indie-pop meets brit-pop sound, as the isolated production propensities are replaced by a definitive dulcet that supports their muscular guitar-pop.
Two out of two albums have reached lofty heights of excellence for a band that appears to have no apparent ceiling in terms of potential.
